Prey and its secrets – The Dentex

Written by Aris Kalatzopoulos

Not many years ago spearfishing movies were for Greek spearos something pretty specialized and rare. The years nevertheless passed, times have changed, filming equipment thanks to technology has evolved and become more accessible for use under the surface of the sea and therefore from tapes with international champions in the leading roles, now Greece may brag as having one of the largest productions of movies on this subject. UnderwaterXperts appeared in the beginning of the golden era of the DVD, back then when these new discs were to be unbreakable and a choice of a video cassette was also given for some productions. With its first movie “Through the eyes of the hunter N.1 – Planing” Gianni’s Tsilivako’s company immediately introduced innovations such as professional editing and authoring, translation in 6 languages and distribution at all the press selling points throughout Greece. Since then 6 years have passed while 4 more movies have been produced with the last being “Through the eyes of the hunter N.4 – Bluewater Hunting”, which loyal to the innovative tradition of the company was available only in Blu-Ray, the first Greek Blu-Ray production in general…

From A-Z. Knots

Written by Aris Kalatzopoulos

I always liked or actually, went crazy over old sea men watching them showing off about their knowledge on knots… and of course hearing them argue about which knot is the best. The result? I never managed to remember or execute them correctly. I have lost many protection balloons… it’s a good thing I never lost my boat!!!

That was the end of the line! I carefully observed how each knot was made and I made sure I asked these old sea men about which ones were the most important knots to know so as to tie my boat and everything else needed safely and securely.

Basic principles for any knot – it should be made easily and quickly, it should not untie itself, and we should be able to untie it quickly and easily if needed!
The best knot in the whole world is not useful or may even be dangerous if it doesn’t follow these principles! We don’t actually need to know about…. 50 knots! The important thing is to know those which are essential, to know when to use them and most importantly how to execute them correctly!

Taking all the above into consideration, I have narrowed all the knots to these three, which in my opinion are essential for any captain

Dive Computer Aeris

Written by Aris Kalatzopoulos

Anew model produced by Aeris especially for freediving. Except for its nice and qualitative design, the Aeris F10 has a number of features that can make recreational or competitive freediving much easier and most importantly, safer. Freedive Mode Menu displays depth and elapsed dive time, a user defined surface recovery timer and many other important alarms take care of the safety section, while in History Mode, one can see the Maximum depth ever, longest dive time along with its depth, average max depth – dive time and number of dives per day. Of course it can be used as a normal watch, it has a usb computer interface and the battery can be replaced by the user. Finally, it has been strenuously tested by freediving world champion, Martin Stepanek (!) for over 14 months.

Behind the lens - The beggining

Written by Giannis Giannopoulos

Maybe it’s a deviation for someone to seek the historical beginning of the subject which they handle. It’s strange but people can apprehend what is happening around them by setting a beginning and an end. I also, having this human deviation, tried to find this “photographic beginning”. However vainly, the beginning of our story seems to get lost in the centuries and in many names that sire photography.
The basic idea is simple: A cuboid box with a small hole in the center of one of its sides. The light as it enters from the small hole, projects in the interior of the box, the object which is located outside reversed.
Its name: camera obscura (dark room)
Inventor: Supposedly ancient Egyptians had this knowledge and the Chinese philosopher Mo-Ti
